Who's Got My Back?

Who's Got My Back?

A few years back when I was a soccer mom, (do you ever really stop being a soccer mom?) I was blessed by my daughter’s soccer team. They didn’t know it, but they gave me something that I’ll never forget.

First, let me share a little bit about being on the soccer field, (in case you are not a soccer mom) the players are always talking to each other. It’s fast moving, so fast moving that you can never see everything that is happening on the field, so they talk, “I’m back”, “over here”, etc. You learn your team mates voices, and it takes trust to hear and react to what you hear. I love how they build each other up and begin to lean on each other. That’s when they really start to play as a team.

My daughter played with the same girls for several years and at the beginning of every game they had this huddle cheer. There was one in particular that just made me smile. They’d all huddle together and 1 of the players would ask, “who’s got my back?” Then all the others would yell, I’ve got your back. The 1st player would ask again, louder this time. “Who’s got my back?”, the cheer would get louder and louder each time they went through the ritual.  I seriously loved it because it was so, soccer. They always had each other’s back.

One afternoon, while sitting there listening to them, God got my attention!   It went something like this…This is what I’m like DeeAnna. I’ve got your back! Always and forever, I’ve got your back. As a Christian, you know, when you know, that something is from God, and I’m not kidding, it was so out of nowhere. I knew! It really affected me, and the more I thought about it, the more I kind of giggled, Jesus is like a soccer player. He’s constantly talking to you, but you have to learn to trust His voice and react when you hear it. He’s always there, hovering on the outskirts of our mind, whispering, I’ve got your back, let me handle this,  just waiting for us to hear, pass Him the ball and trust Him.

I will never forget that day, that is why I knew I had to release this design and share the message that Jesus has YOUR back.

The pocket design with Psalm 91 is the perfect complement to the back design. Click here to shop this design.  My prayer is that you find meaning and security in this design, as I do.  I’ll leave Psalm 91 here for anyone who would like to meditate on the sheer comfort of knowing just how Jesus has your back.

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation
