Laughing is Serious Business!

In reflecting over the last year, there’s been a great deal of drama, sadness, and emotionally painful experiences. I really dislike paying any tribute to those moments but occasionally I need to recognize that I’ve been able to grow stronger as I‘ve traveled through them. Along with acknowledging the tough moments, I must keep my perspective, because if I concentrate on only those, I’ll not be able to recognize that there has also been happiness, gratefulness, wonderfully inspirational moments, and laughter.
Yes laughter! I love the laughter, it’s one of my favorite sounds. Lately, laughter has permeated our home. It creeps in when we least likely expect it, and it is contagious! No one is immune!
I really don’t know why, but I’m loving it! It’s hard to image us as a silly bunch, but we can start giggling over nothing, and before we know it, someone is sitting on the ground, holding their stomach, pleading with the others to stop, they can‘t take anymore. Even some very common words, like “cool whip”, spoken at just the right moment, can send us into hysterics. Yes “cool whip”, I know it sounds silly, but for me it just a sign that we’re happy.

Last evening I was sharing with a friend that I regarded this as such a blessing and was enjoying the moments, considering them small little gifts. This morning, knowing I would share on this, I was organizing my thoughts and then it came, in the form of an email, with a bible verse, Ecclesiastes 8:15 reads, “So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun. ”. There it was right in God’s word, “Enjoy Life, Have Fun!”

I consider laughter “Fun”. It helps! Most of the laughter in our home, comes from laughing at ourselves or each other. So being able to laugh at your self is important, because here, people are going to be laughing at you, so you better find your sense of humor! It enables you to see the brighter side, the “sillier” side. A sense of humor empowers you to not be so serious, and find enjoyment.

Life is serious business but so is happiness, laughter, and even silliness. Sometimes we just need to find those “cool whip” moments and embrace them, God wants that for us and He knows what we need.
