Directionally Challenged?

5fdb7adcf56e350512635a099061bda1I’m sitting here at 11:35 pm waiting for my daughter to get home. She should already be home but you know…we live in California and even at this time of night there’s dead stop traffic on the freeway! I received a video from her of the traffic, (don’t worry she wasn’t holding the phone, her friend (A)was) with a cute little update. I hear (A) say, “we’re on the  XX freeway heading east” quickly my daughter corrects him “NORTH!” all I hear is laughter at this point, both of them! He corrects himself and continues with the update to let me know where they are and an estimated time of arrival. I laugh a little to myself cause obviously he’s a little directionally challenged right in the town where he lives. I realize, that I’m very glad she knows which direction she’s heading.  It’s important and I know so many people who just can’t seem to grasp the North, South, East, West concept. Since I read a map book for 20 or so years, I’m pretty good at knowing where I am and which direction I need to go, especially for a girl! Sometimes I’ll quiz her, “which direction does this freeway head?” hopefully she’ll have some good reference if she ever needs it, cause all of us get lost sometimes and I sure don’t want her pulling over to use the GPS on her phone!

This little moment reminded me of life. She’s right at that crossroad of almost finished with high school; trying to navigate college decisions. Those are some stressful decisions for an 18 year old; life changing in her book. Where should I go?, what do I want to do for a career? etc., etc. Sometimes I worry a little but then I remember everyone feels that way at one time or another.  I think we’re lucky (my family), when we find ourselves in this type of situation we have God to look to for help. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Oh, trust me we’re not perfect by any means, FAR from it, but we love Jesus, and seek him to be our GPS navigation system. During those times when we get a little lost or make a mistake, we know which direction to turn. Due North and Pray Hard.

Have a Blessed Day,
