What are your two top resolutions for the new year?
As I’ve shared before, every Sunday during church we’re encouraged to get to know one another with a sometimes crazy, funny or agonizing question to answer. Todays question, listed above, was met with agonizing groans from the crowd….Do we all dislike thinking about New Year Resolutions?
My answer was exactly identical to the gentleman I was visiting with….No resolutions for me! I like to think of the new year as a new fresh beginning, a way to begin fresh but I do not make resolutions. Why? because they are not helpful and neither is the result.
BUT, this evening I realized something that I’d like to do. I’d like to participate in a bible reading challenge. It’s been a while since I’ve read the bible all the way through and reading the bible is something I need to be doing on a regular basis (it helps me to be the kind of person I want to be) so finding a plan and signing up to be accountable to someone will be good for me.
The necessary part….accepting the fact that I’ll not be perfect in this and I will probably fall behind. But even if I fall behind. I’ll be further than if I procrastinate and don’t begin at all. I’m a good procrastinator!
So…I guess this is my commitment to begin a journey forward, with God and a little help and encouragement from the Holy Spirit.
Do you have a resolution? Are you willing to share it with someone or is it something you keep to yourself (just in case it doesn’t happen)?
Now to search for a plan that works for me.
